Artist Statement

Here, I explore two concepts: future and death. When these are combined together, what is the result? Our perception of what the future just might hold, are just like this. Our bodies aren’t forever, and we will eventually have to confront the reality of death.

I tried depicting a deer’s last dying moments in the future hospital; despite the surrounding machinery that he uses to try and prolong his life, it can’t stop him from the inevitable truth. We’re going to have such technologically advanced equipment in the future, but it can only do so much. No matter how advanced society becomes, death is not something that can be engineered away. Therefore, our souls are more important than any mechanical piece that is out there.I aim to challenge the viewer to reconsider what progress truly means if it cannot preserve the one thing we value most: our own existence.
